Is knowing your Dosha hindering your overall Health?

People get so caught up in their “Dosha type” that they become rigid and inflexible. They focus so much on keeping in line with their supposed Dosha type (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) that they miss out on really connecting and understanding their true state of being.

Yes, we are born with our main Dosha Constitution (Prakriti) of Vata, Pitta, Kapha: or a combo of 2 or all 3. But when we just focus on being our Dosha type, we are adhering to a label.

Some people come in asking for a list of foods that are best for their Dosha Type. I am here to say, you really don’t need a strict diet list. Instead, we need to learn to listen to our selves (ourcells). We as humans are part of the natural eco-system of the earth. What happens outside, is also happening inside: Regardless of what Dosha you are.

So my advice on what to eat??
Ask yourself these 3 questions when choosing food.

Is your food…

Local?
Seasonal?
Wholesome? (No perspectives etc)

All these are more important in what you are eating than eating for your “body dosha type”.
We need to be flexible. We have our overall Prakriti and our flexible everyday Prakriti.

When we eat in balance with our local environment, this is best for our health and vitality.

The main reason for food lists is when you are out of balance, so these changes are based off your Vikriti (imbalances) not your Prakriti. It is also important to take into account your state of mind, Agni, Ama and eliminations when making dietary changes.
